Easy Chicken Barbecue Pizza

Easy Homemade Chicken Barbecue Pizza

I love to cook, but I also love recipes that are easy, delicious, and don’t require spending half the day in the kitchen. This Chicken Barbecue Pizza is definitely one of those!

It uses simple ingredients, comes together quickly, and is perfect for an easy weeknight dinner, a lazy weekend, or game day.

And that’s one of my favorite things about homemade pizza — you can make it exactly the way you like it!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 refrigerated pizza crust
  • Cooked chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Your favorite barbecue sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Shredded Italian cheese blend
  • Red onion, sliced or chopped
  • Italian seasoning

Fancy Nancy Note: I don’t always measure everything exactly when I make pizza. Sometimes you just add cheese until it looks right! ❤️

First — Let’s Talk About the Pizza Pan

Preheat your oven to 400°F.

Before we even get to the pizza, I have to share one of my favorite pizza tricks.

I always use a pizza pan with holes in the bottom. The holes allow more heat to get underneath the pizza, and I think it makes the crust cook SO much better.

And I don’t just use these pans for homemade pizza!

I use them when I make frozen pizzas too — even something like a DiGiorno pizza. In my opinion, they make a better pizza with a much nicer crust.

Pre-Cook Your Crust

Place the pizza crust on your pizza pan and pre-cook it for 6–8 minutes at 400°F.

Don’t skip this step!

Pre-cooking the crust before adding all of the sauce, chicken and cheese helps keep the finished pizza from getting too soft underneath.

Fancy Nancy Tip ❤️ — Making More Than One Pizza?

We often make more than one pizza at a time, and I’ve learned a little trick that helps them cook more evenly.

If you’re cooking two pizzas on different oven racks, halfway through the pre-cooking time, switch them:

Move the top pizza to the bottom rack and the bottom pizza to the top rack.

Then do the same thing again during the final cooking time after you’ve added your toppings.

Switch the top and bottom pizzas about halfway through.

This helps both pizzas cook more evenly so you don’t end up with one perfectly cooked pizza while the other one still needs more time.

Now Let’s Make the Chicken Barbecue Pizza!

Once your crust has pre-cooked, take it out of the oven.

Spread a layer of your favorite barbecue sauce over the crust, leaving a little room around the edges.

I use Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce, but use whatever barbecue sauce you and your family love.

Add the Chicken

Cut your cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces and spread it evenly over the pizza.

I like using already-cooked chicken for this recipe. It’s a great shortcut and makes this pizza really easy to throw together without having to cook chicken first.

Bring on the Cheese!

Now for one of the best parts — the cheese!

Sprinkle your mozzarella cheese and Italian cheese blend over the pizza.

Then add your red onion and finish it with a sprinkle of Italian seasoning.

Want more cheese? Add more cheese!

Don’t like a lot of onion? Use less.

That’s the beauty of homemade pizza — there really aren’t many rules.

Back Into the Oven

Put your pizza back into the 400°F oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the crust is cooked through and golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

If you’re cooking two pizzas, remember my trick:

About halfway through the 15–20 minute cooking time, switch the pizza on the top rack with the pizza on the bottom rack.

This helps both pizzas cook more evenly.

Once everything is hot, bubbly and looking delicious, take your pizza out and let it sit for a few minutes before slicing.

If you can wait that long. 😂

Make It Your Own

One of the reasons I love making pizza at home is because everyone can make theirs a little different.

Don’t like onions? Leave them off.

Love extra cheese? Pile it on.

Want extra barbecue sauce? Go for it.

You can even use this same method with completely different toppings and make your own favorite pizza.

For me, cooking doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s about finding a few shortcuts, adding the things you love, and making something delicious for the people you love.

Easy. Cheesy. Delicious. And just a little Fancy Nancy. ❤️
