OOTD: One Last Taste of Summer 🍋☀️

Fall may be starting to creep in, but apparently Georgia weather did not get the memo! Today is supposed to hit 85 degrees, which means I’m definitely not ready to pull out the sweaters, boots, and leggings just yet.

Instead, I’m taking advantage of what might be one of my last chances this year to wear something really fun and summery — my lemon-print sundress from Torrid. 🍋

And really, if life gives you lemons… wear them!

A Summer Dress for an Almost-Fall Day

There is always that funny time of year when the calendar says fall is coming, but the temperature still says SUMMER.

On an 85-degree day, I don’t want to spend the day working from home in something heavy just because we’re getting closer to fall. I still want to be cool, comfortable, and cute.

This Torrid lemon dress checks all three boxes.

The light fabric and sleeveless style will keep me comfortable when it gets hot this afternoon, while the lemon print and white eyelet detail along the bottom make it feel cheerful, feminine, and just plain fun.

It’s also one of those dresses that doesn’t require much effort. Put it on, add a few accessories, and you’re dressed.

🍋 Fancy Nancy Tip: Don’t pack away all of your summer dresses the minute September arrives! Those warmer early-fall days are the perfect opportunity to get a few more wears out of your favorites.

But I Still Have to Be Video-Meeting Ready

Of course, today isn’t just about staying cool. I have several video meetings planned, so I also need an outfit that can quickly go from casual work-from-home to camera-ready.

That’s where one of my favorite work-from-home tricks comes in:

Throw on a shrug or lightweight sweater.

It takes a summery spaghetti-strap dress and instantly makes it look a little more polished for a meeting. When the meeting is over, the shrug comes back off and I’m comfortable again.

No complete outfit change required!

This is one of the reasons I love having a few simple sweaters and shrugs within reach when I’m working from home. They can completely change the look of an outfit in seconds. The shrug from video is also from Torrid.

A Little Pop of Sunshine ☀️

For accessories, I’m pairing the dress with my bright yellow tassel hoop earrings.

They’re definitely not subtle — and that’s exactly why I like them with this dress!

The yellow pulls out the lemons in the print and adds another fun little pop of color. Sometimes an accessory doesn’t need to be practical or serious.

Sometimes it can simply make you smile.

And these earrings do that.

The Easiest Hair Trick: My Clip-In Pony

You may also notice that my hair looks a little longer today!

That’s thanks to one of my favorite easy hair tricks — a clip-in ponytail.

I love pieces like this because I can change my hairstyle without spending forever getting ready. I can pull my own hair back, add the pony, and suddenly I have long, full curls.

It’s especially handy on a work-from-home morning when I want to look put together for video meetings without spending a ton of time on my hair.

Comfortable Shoes Are Non-Negotiable

I’m finishing the outfit with my ABEO wedge sandals.

One of my favorite things about these sandals is that they work well for wide feet and are adjustable. That’s a big deal for me because cute shoes aren’t very useful if I can’t comfortably wear them.

The cream color also works perfectly with the white background and eyelet trim of the dress without competing with the lemon print.

They give me a little height and the look of a wedge while still being a comfortable sandal — exactly my kind of shoe.

Don’t Forget What Goes Under the Dress!

Here’s another one of my favorite tricks for wearing dresses comfortably: bike shorts underneath!

If you deal with thigh chafing, especially on a hot 85-degree day, a lightweight pair of bike shorts under your dress can make a huge difference. They help prevent that uncomfortable rubbing while still letting you enjoy wearing a cute summer dress.

And they have another very important benefit…

Wind insurance! 😂

We’ve all seen that famous Marilyn Monroe moment with her white dress blowing up in the breeze. Iconic in a photograph?

Absolutely.

Something I want happening to me while I’m walking across a parking lot?

Not so much! 😂

Bike shorts give me a little extra security if a surprise gust of wind decides that today is the day for my own Marilyn Monroe moment.

I can wear my dress, stay comfortable, and not spend the entire day worrying about keeping my skirt where it belongs.

🍋 Fancy Nancy Tip: Keep a few pairs of lightweight bike shorts specifically for wearing under dresses. I like something soft, stretchy, breathable, and long enough to help protect the areas where my thighs tend to rub.

That Glow? There’s a Little Help Behind It ✨

If you look at today’s pictures and notice a little extra glow on my face, that isn’t just the sunshine!

I’m using the Luminess Body Glow that I’ve talked about before. Even though it says body glow, I like using a little to give my skin that pretty, luminous look.

I especially like it on days when I don’t want my face to feel covered in heavy makeup. It gives me that extra glow and helps me feel a little more put together — perfect for a warm day and all of those video meetings.

It’s one of those little beauty products that works perfectly with my philosophy of look good, feel good, be you.

My Must-Have for My Brows: Glossier Boy Brow

There’s one more little beauty trick happening in today’s OOTD that you might not immediately notice — my eyebrows!

I use Glossier Boy Brow in Auburn, and this has become a must-have for me.

As my eyebrows have started getting some grey in them, Boy Brow helps disguise those lighter hairs while adding just enough auburn color to make my brows coordinate better with my hair.

And since I love changing up my hair with wigs and clip-in pieces, having my brows closer to those strawberry-blonde and auburn shades helps everything look more pulled together.

It’s a small detail, but sometimes those little details make a surprisingly big difference.

🍋 Fancy Nancy Tip: If you color your hair or wear wigs and hairpieces, don’t forget about your brows! A tinted brow product can help tie your hair color and your face together without having to permanently color your eyebrows.

Making the Most of the Last Summer Days

I’m definitely starting to think about fall clothes. There will be plenty of time for cardigans, leggings, boots, deeper colors, and all the cozy things.

But today isn’t that day.

It’s going to be 85 degrees.

So today I’m wearing the lemons. 🍋

I’m adding my bright yellow earrings, putting on my comfortable wedges, slipping on my bike shorts underneath, clipping in my pony, adding a little glow, and enjoying what may be one of my last really summery OOTDs of the season.

And when that video meeting notification pops up?

I’ll grab my shrug, turn on the camera, and I’m ready to go.

Because transitioning into fall doesn’t mean we have to rush summer out the door.

Sometimes you just have to enjoy that one last taste of summer. ☀️🍋💗
