A hearty, comforting dinner with tender steak, potatoes, green beans, and rich beef gravy — all made in one crockpot!

There is just something about a good crockpot dinner that makes life easier. You throw everything together, let it cook, and a few hours later, dinner is ready. And when that dinner includes tender steak, potatoes, vegetables, and a flavorful gravy, well, that’s my kind of comfort food!
Today, I’m sharing my Crockpot Steak and Potatoes, another one of my Measured with Love recipes.
If you’ve followed my recipes, you already know I don’t always pull out the measuring cups. I season until it looks right, pour until it feels right, and adjust things based on what I have in the kitchen.
That’s exactly how this dinner came together.
And the best part? There are so many ways to change this recipe to suit your family’s tastes.
Ingredients — Measured with Love! ❤️
Here’s what I used:
- Filet mignon medallions — cut into bite-sized pieces. You can substitute stew meat, sirloin, or another cut of steak.
- 5 potatoes — peeled and chopped into bite-sized chunks.
- Butter — enough to coat the potatoes as it melts.
- 1 onion — chopped or sliced.
- Frozen cut green beans — add as many as you like.
- 1 jar Heinz HomeStyle Beef Gravy
- About ½ cup beef broth
- About 2 tablespoons A.1. Steak Sauce
- Worcestershire sauce — measured with love!
- Kinder’s Buttery Steakhouse Seasoning — season to your taste.
Optional Additions
Want to change things up? Try adding carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, or whatever vegetables your family enjoys.
You can also use a beef gravy packet instead of jarred gravy, or add Lipton Onion Soup Mix for another layer of flavor.
That’s what I love about crockpot cooking. You can make a recipe your own without making it complicated!
Let’s Get Cooking!
Step 1: Start with the Potatoes
I started by peeling five potatoes and cutting them into bite-sized chunks.
Into the crockpot they went!
I added butter directly on top of the potatoes and sprinkled them with Kinder’s Buttery Steakhouse Seasoning.
Here’s my little trick: I let the potatoes sit in the crockpot with the butter while I prepare everything else.
The butter starts to soften and melt over the potatoes while I’m chopping and getting the other ingredients ready.
Nothing fancy, just an easy way to get things started.
Step 2: Prepare the Steak
For this recipe, I used filet medallions that I cut into bite-sized pieces.
Now, you certainly don’t have to use filet!
Stew meat, sirloin, or another steak you enjoy will work. Just remember that different cuts may need different cooking times to become tender.
I added the steak right on top of the potatoes and gave everything another sprinkle of seasoning.
Step 3: Add Your Vegetables
Next came the vegetables.
I used sliced onions and frozen cut green beans.
And this is where you can really make the recipe your own.
Love carrots? Throw some in!
Have a bell pepper that needs to be used? Chop it up!
Mushrooms would be delicious in this, too.
I like recipes that let me use what I already have instead of making another trip to the grocery store.
Step 4: Add the Sauces and Gravy
Now comes the flavor!
I added:
- A little Worcestershire sauce — measured with love, of course.
- About 2 tablespoons of A.1. Steak Sauce.
- One jar of Heinz HomeStyle Beef Gravy.
- About ½ cup of beef broth.
I gave everything a good mix so the steak, potatoes, and vegetables were coated in the gravy and seasonings.
You don’t need a lot of liquid because the vegetables and steak will release moisture as everything cooks.
Fancy Nancy Tip: I’ve made similar recipes using a packet of beef gravy mix instead of a jar. If you go that route, add more beef broth according to the packet directions.
Lipton Onion Soup Mix is another option if you want to change the flavor a little.
Just keep in mind that gravy mixes, soup mixes, and steak seasoning can all contain salt, so taste before adding extra.
Step 5: Let the Crockpot Do Its Thing!
I put the lid on and cooked everything on LOW for approximately 5 hours.
That’s it!
No standing over the stove, no juggling multiple pots and pans, and very little cleanup.
Cooking times can vary based on your slow cooker, the size of your steak pieces, and the type of beef you use. Make sure the meat is cooked through and the potatoes are fork-tender before serving.
Tougher cuts like stew meat may need additional time to become tender.
Dinner Is Served!
I served mine with warm, buttery biscuits.
And let me tell you, those biscuits were perfect for soaking up that delicious beef gravy!
You have your meat, potatoes, vegetables, and gravy all together, which makes this practically a complete meal in one pot.
It’s hearty, filling, and exactly the kind of dinner I enjoy when I want something homemade without spending my entire afternoon in the kitchen.
Want to Change It Up? Here Are Some Ideas!
One of my favorite things about this recipe is how versatile it is.
Steak and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes
Skip the potatoes in the crockpot and cook the steak, onions, green beans, and gravy together.
Then serve everything over a big helping of creamy mashed potatoes.
That rich gravy over mashed potatoes would be wonderful!
Make It a Vegetable-Packed Dinner
Add carrots, mushrooms, or bell peppers along with the onions and green beans.
Use what you love and what you have on hand.
Try a Different Cut of Beef
You don’t need expensive steak for this recipe.
Stew meat or chuck roast cut into chunks can make a delicious version, although tougher cuts generally need longer to cook until tender.
Switch Up the Gravy
Use jarred beef gravy, a beef gravy packet with broth, or add onion soup mix for a slightly different flavor.
Each one gives the dish its own personality!
Fancy Nancy’s Kitchen Tips ❤️
A few things I’ve learned from making dinners like this:
- Cut your potatoes into similar-sized pieces. This helps them cook evenly.
- Season in layers. I like seasoning the potatoes first and then adding more seasoning with the steak.
- Don’t overdo the liquid. The meat and vegetables will add moisture as they cook.
- Choose your beef based on cooking time. Tender steak cuts and tougher stew cuts won’t necessarily be ready at the same time.
- Make extra gravy if you love biscuits! There is nothing better than a warm biscuit dipped into rich beef gravy.
And remember, recipes like this don’t have to be exact. Start with the ingredients you enjoy, season to your preference, and make it yours.
A Little Comfort Food Without All the Work
Some days I enjoy spending time in the kitchen cooking a big meal. Other days, I just want something easy that still tastes homemade.
That’s why I love my crockpot.
This Steak and Potatoes recipe is simple, flexible, and perfect for a cozy family dinner.
And if you have leftovers, they’re great reheated for lunch the next day. Just refrigerate them promptly in shallow containers and use within 3–4 days.
Whether you serve it with biscuits, over mashed potatoes, or just in a big bowl with extra gravy, it’s a meal that can easily become part of your regular dinner rotation.
Made with love, seasoned with love, and served with love!
Until next time,
Stay Fancy! 💕
