Fancy Nancy in Black: From Video Meetings to Conference Cocktails

Working remotely doesn’t mean I never get dressed up—but it does mean my “real pants” don’t get nearly as much attention as my comfy clothes. 😂

Today I have video meetings, so I’m putting together a look that feels comfortable while still looking polished. I’m also getting ready for a conference in Texas, which means it’s time for a little at-home fashion show.

I need to find out what still fits, which shoes I can comfortably wear, and, of course, which wigs are coming with me. It’s been a while since some of these outfits had to leave the house. We need a practice run!

This black outfit is definitely a contender. It’s comfortable, easy to wear, and—with a quick change of layers—could take me from conference sessions to dinner and cocktails.

The Pants: Real Pants Can Be Comfortable!

These black pants are from Torrid, and they are loose and so comfortable. They give me room to move without making me feel like I’m counting the minutes until I can change.

That matters when I’m planning an outfit for a conference. There will be sitting, walking, meeting people, and heading out afterward. I want to feel put together through all of it.

A pair of black pants also gives me a useful starting point for packing. I can try them with different tops and layers before deciding what earns a spot in the suitcase.

The Amazon Top That Feels Like a T-Shirt

My top is from Amazon, and the best part is that it feels like a T-shirt without looking like a basic tee.

The fabric is comfortable, but the shape gives the outfit a more dressed-up feel. I love the waist detail and the way the bottom flares out a little. It adds interest even before I put on a jacket or jewelry.

This is my kind of work outfit: something that looks like I made an effort while still letting me stay comfortable at my desk.

The Torrid Shrug: A Little Drama, Very Little Effort

The printed shrug is also from Torrid, and I think it really dresses up the outfit.

I like the movement it adds, and the pattern breaks up the black without taking away from the overall look. It’s an easy layer to throw on for a video meeting or wear out afterward.

For the conference, I’m thinking about bringing a blazer to wear during the day, then switching to this shrug for dinner and cocktails. Same pants, same top, different feel.

That sounds much easier than packing an entirely separate evening outfit. Whether my suitcase agrees with this sensible approach is another story. 😉

The Shoes: A Little Bling Never Hurts

These shoes are from Torrid, too, and they are super cute and comfortable. The little bit of sparkle adds something fun to the outfit.

Because even when I’m wearing all black, a little bling never hurts!

Trying shoes on at home is part of my conference preparation. Looking cute is one thing; wanting to keep them on is another. These feel good so far, and I’m giving them some time on my feet before making my final packing decisions.

The Wig That Had Me Checking My Order History

Now, let’s talk about the hair.

This wig came from Saphire Wigs on Amazon, and it is so soft that I thought it was human hair. I actually went back through my past orders to check—and it isn’t!

The exact wig I’m wearing is no longer available, but I’m leaving the company link below so you can explore their other styles. Based on my experience with this one, I would happily consider another wig from them. The softness really impressed me.

Choosing which wigs to bring is part of packing, too. I’m trying the whole look together now so I can decide what I like before I’m standing in a hotel room getting ready.

Comfortable, Polished, and a Little Fancy

This outfit checks a lot of boxes for me: comfortable pants, a soft top, an easy layer, and cute shoes with a little sparkle.

For today, it works for my remote meetings. For Texas, it gives me an option I can dress up with a blazer during the day and soften with the shrug at night.

And if trying everything on now saves me from a “Why did I pack this?” moment later, the at-home fashion show will have been worth it.

Do you try on your outfits before a trip, or pack them and hope for the best? And be honest—how long has it been since you wore your real pants? 😂
